Man of Steel.
Lord of the skin rings Kam Ma is on a new quest . . . to beat his own body piercing world record.
Last year he had 1015 metal rings skewered through his body in a non-stop session without anaesthetic.
His total last year beat his previous best of 600, set five years ago. Amazingly, Kam said he kept most of the rings in for up to a month afterwards and has hardly had any scarring.
Kam said he became hooked at the tender age of 16 after getting his belly button and tongue pierced while on holiday in America.

You must be yolking.
Dayne Gilbey's mates think he's an egg short of a fry-up - after he volunteered to have a full English breakfast tattooed on his head.
The 19-year-old, of Pinetree Road, Bedworth, has agreed to go under the needle to raise money for the hospital that saved his life when he was a child.
"I fell off my bike when I was a kid and ruptured my liver. I remember being transferred to the children's hospital and doctors there saved my life. It would be good to give something back."
The culinary handiwork envisaged by the Welsh needle wizard will involve about seven hours' work.

Volunteer wanted for fry-up tattoo.
Tattoo artist Blane Dickinson, of Penmaenmawr, North Wales, is searching for a volunteer willing to have a full English breakfast inked on his head.
The unusual tattoo would ideally feature eggs, bacon and sausages but Mr Dickinson, 32, says he is willing to accept variations to the theme, such as black pudding or meat-free options for vegetarians.
But he feels the tattoo must be on someone’s head to get the full effect.

We've an ink-ling this man likes Christmas.
WHILE Christmas comes but once a year for most of us, one city man will be reminded of it all year round. For jolly Howard Moody (39) has decided he loves the festive season so much he wanted to shoulder the responsibility of carrying Santa Claus wherever he goes.
So, he had a picture of everybody's favourite bearded man tattooed in glorious technicolour on his back.
"The thing is, kids believe in Christmas. To them it just has such a magical feel. "I wanted to capture that. I had the tattoo because I wanted to be reminded of that feeling, which adults tend to lose."
Mr Moody, who lives in Peterborough, visited Section 18 Tattoo Studio, on the corner of Palmerston Road and Oundle Road, and presented the picture to tattooist Emma Daubney, who spent about one hour and 15 minutes recreating the shot on his back. He said: "I'm really pleased with it. Emma did a great job.

Stories of tattoos more than skin deep.
The story of Andy Cheesemans tattoo is among many recounted in the Skin Deep exhibition which arrives at Yarmouth's Time and Tide museum in March on tour from the National Maritime Museum.
Curator Samantha Johns received nearly 50 replies after appealing in the EDP for stories related to local people's tattoos.
One of the people with whom the appeal in the EDP brought her into contact was John Mitchell, 59, from Yarmouth, whose father Jimmy, uncle George, and grandfather, also Jimmy, were all well-known local tattooists.
Mr Mitchell, who sports one of his father's tattoos, recalled: "My father's dead but my uncle still works as a tattooist in the summer on Britannia Pier. "He's in his 80s now and must be the oldest working tattooist in the country."
The exhibition, the last in a series of temporary displays funded by Objective 2 funding, will reflect the diversity of tattooing over two centuries and highlight its growth as a statement of fashion and identity in today's society.

Taking heart at award.
Ever since her son Daniel died of blood poisoning after a lip piercing, Sheffield mum Christina Anderson has campaigned tirelessly for greater awareness of the dangers and for changes to the law.
Now Christina and his former school, City School at Richmond, have received Achievement Awards for their work in his memory.
Take Heart chairman Colin Pullan MBE, and treasurer Alec McLean, presented the awards, which recognised fundraising by the school for the DanAid campaign set up by Christina, who runs workshops in schools across the city.
"Since 2003, Ms Anderson has been delivering workshops to all our students on the dangers of body piercings. Her mission is to prevent other young people dying in the same tragic circumstances as Dan.

Rogue tattooist scare for schoolgirl.
Stacey, a schoolgirl, is waiting for the results of blood tests after secretly visiting an unregistered tattooist working from a block of flats.
Health chiefs sent out an urgent warning last week after reports that the man was targeting secondary school pupils in Tameside, offering tattoos for as little as £5.
Dr Lorraine Lighton, of the Greater Manchester Health Protection Unit, said: "It can be tempting to use an unregistered tattooist because they are often cheaper, but that is false economy.

Dad's anger over tongue piercing.
Olivia Freitas' tongue swelled up and she was unable to swallow after having the stud put in at a piercing studio in Blackpool. The 14-year-old told of her regret over the piercing – but hit out at unscrupulous traders who pierce children without checking their age.
There are no current age restriction laws banning children having certain piercings but practices at clinics are regulated by the Health and Safety at Work Act. But unwritten rules in the industry have a cut off point at the age of 16 because they claim children's bodies are not developed enough to accept foreign objects such as studs and nasal piercings.
Dad Daniel said: "I knew nothing about it until she came home with a stud in her tongue. "She was able to walk into a shop with a friend and, no questions asked, have her tongue pierced.
James Woods, of the Blackpool Body Piercing Clinic, opened up on Sunday evening especially to treat Olivia. He said: "Once again, a young girl has been pierced without her parents' knowledge and the piercing has not been done properly. "It is about time there was legislation to make it illegal to pierce underage kids without parental consent."

IT doesn't take much to needle Sheffield councillor Tony Damms...
The politician has had his first tattoo at the age of 57 to raise money for the Lord Mayor's charity. Tony, councillor for Southey, didn't opt for a Labour rose but instead chose a red and green six inch dragon, which was etched into his skin by artist Quoz, of Q Tattoo in Orchard Square.
"When I was Lord Mayor I was lucky enough to go to Japan and it was a wonderful experience," said Tony.
Tony has been yearning for a tattoo since he was a teenager but decided to take the plunge to raise money for charity.
"I've heard people say they are very addictive and I was talking to a man who started off with one but then kept going back for more and ended up with loads of them. "They really are works of art and I've already seen another one I would like."

Traders fear they’ll be swallowed up by new supermarkets.
A proposed £75m revamp of Lowesmoor would create 1,000 jobs and attract major stores such as Asda. But shop owners feel they have been left out of the plans and all but one of the 55 stores have signed a petition which they handed into Worcester City Council yesterday. The petition was accompanied by a three-page explanation of what the traders want.
"We feel as current traders that we should be included. This part of Worcester, which is the first entrance into the city, has been neglected long enough."
Mark Williams, co-owner of the Tattoo Shop, agreed. He said: "As it stands, we fear we will be gobbled up by the new development and we will be forgotten. "If everything is happening over there, no one is going to think about coming here."
Alan Coleman, development control team leader with Worcester City Council, said: "The traders have made very constructive points and we will take them into considerations as part of ongoing discussions."

Plans to 'breathe life' into Friargate.
Plans for the area include building a mixture of shop units, offices and high-quality apartments with scope for a cafe bar and a health club on the historic high street close to the city's university.
Under plans submitted to Preston Council, shops such as Retro Rags to body piercing parlour Ozone, will be replaced with "ultra-modern" three-storey units designed to retain Friargate's traditional character.
It is intended numbers 106 and 107 will have shops on the ground floor with offices above, while numbers 108 and 109 will house a large shop suitable for a supermarket on the ground floor with space for a cafe bar and the lounge of a health club above.
The application, which has been out to consultation, follows six months of negotiations by designers at Preston Council.

Tattoo cover-up 'discriminates'.
Rebecca Holdcroft likes to "express" herself through body art. However, she felt she was being discriminated against at work and contacted the BBC News website to express her point of view.
Even though she does not deal with the public face-to-face, her latest employers told her she must wear a cardigan to conceal her tattoos.
"There are other people in the office that have tattoos, but not to the same extent. They aren't being told to cover up".
"It's just disappointing. It doesn't matter how well you work, what matters is what you look like," she said.
"I want to feel I am not being judged on my appearance, but how well I am doing my job."

Cleaning up the image of the tattoo parlour.
Why do so many people choose to have their bodies permanently etched upon? I went to talk to Helen Spencer who has just opened Dragon Tears, a new tattoo and piercing studio in Thornton Square, Brighouse, this week.

Gungate traders blast officials.
Annette Bates, owner of Nala tattoo parlour, and Lorraine Jordan, from the Lily Leaf beauty salon, have been ordered to move their promotional A-boards closer to their shop walls and pay £75 to the council to register them as part of its street licensing scheme – but they are both refusing to do so.
Both longstanding traders in the town are frustrated by Tamworth Borough Council's 'lack of support' for what they call a 'struggling' part of the town.
"It doesn't seem the local council is helping our businesses one bit. "People can't be bothered to walk to this end of town.
"I've paid £200 for my A-board so everyone can see it from the end of the road – so people will know we are here."

Getting tough on dodgy tattooists.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council says existing byelaws to regulate cosmetic piercers were developed in the 1980s when there was "less awareness of the risk of infection from blood-borne disease when carrying out piercing activities".
Now councillors are being asked to approve new measures to improve cleanliness and hygiene of the premises, practitioners and equipment.
The council report said: "With the increased awareness and occurrence of blood-borne diseases such as HIV and hepatitis, it has been found that the existing byelaws do not contain conditions to provide adequate infection-control measures associated with these activities."
Plans to introduce the new byelaw will be considered by the council's cabinet on Wednesday, March 21, at 6.30pm.

Closing loopholes on body-piercing.
The council is now set to adopt a new set of bylaws to ensure body-piercers have to register their business with the council and adhere to safety standards.
These include using needles only once, keeping premises clean and taking precautions against transferring blood-borne illnesses such as hepatitis and HIV.
Health and safety laws are already in place for tattoo artists, acupuncturists and ear piercers, but a legal loophole has exempt body piercing from these rules.
Problems with body piercing usually arise when the wrong size or type of jewellery is used or when the piercing is not looked after by the customer.

Death of teen sparks new body piercing rules.
Sheffield Council's Cabinet will next week set up new regulations for registering businesses involved in tattooing, acupuncture, piercing, electrolysis and semi-permanent skin colouring.
The move was welcomed by Christina Anderson, whose son Daniel was just 17 when he developed blood poisoning days after having his lip pierced. He died two months later in December 2002.
The premises were registered by the council for ear piercing but the piercing of other parts of the body did not require registration under legislation. Coun Steve Jones, deputy leader of the council, said: "We welcome these new powers to meet changing public demands in body piercing and skin colouring following Daniel's tragic death four years ago.
"Any businesses found contravening the new bylaw could face a fine of up to £1,500 and the court would have the power to cancel any registration, preventing anyone convicted from continuing to operate the business."
