Back-door tattoo parlor fined after staph infection.
A Lakeview man faces charges and a $5,000 fine for operating an unlicensed tattoo parlor in his sister's home.
Authorities learned of the illegal parlor on Feb. 10, when a young woman sought treatment for a staph infection at Lake District Hospital.
When the agencies investigated, it traced the woman to her boyfriend, Charles Deford Jenkins, 23, who allegedly provides tattoo services out of his sister's Lakeview home in the 1100-block of South E Street.
Lab results confirmed the presence of staphylococcus aureus on some of the equipment and tattoo ink tested, said agency spokesman Kraig Bohot.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested Jenkins for tattooing without a license and are searching for another unidentified suspect.

A tattoo artist obsesses about "Achewood".
Here's how much Ximena Quiroz loves the insane cult-hit webcomic "Achewood": It's pushing 10 p.m. on a Thursday night, and the 31-year-old tattoo artist is finishing the inks on an "Achewood" tat.
The Urban Soul closed two hours ago. And Ximena (pronounced "he-MEN-uh") is offering her services free of charge. In fact, she's offering free "Achewood" tattoos to anyone who wants them, for the rest of September.
"Ximena's a fan of the strip, and she had the clever idea to drum up business with this promotion," says "Achewood" creator Chris Onstad via e-mail.

Wheeler finds piercing gold at Rainbow.
Sheryl Wheeler, owner of the Magic Rainbow Body Piercing & Tattoo shop in Troutdale, and the Magic Rainbow staff, which includes both of her sons and two cousins, specialize in piercing lips, nostrils, navels, tongues, eyebrows and “all kinds of different areas of the ear,” she says.
The state-licensed shop, which also offers tattoo services by artist Kent Bartley, body jewelry, glass art, sterling silver and beads, has been on the Historic Columbia River Highway for nine years.
After starting in a basement space and then moving nearby, Wheeler settled in to her current space six months ago. Her store has the state’s largest selection of body jewelry, she boasted.
In addition to being certified by Oregon’s Health Licensing Agency, Wheeler also attends seminars and conventions organized by the Association of Professional Piercers. Heather Densem who is Wheeler’s cousin, says the staff also must complete annual blood-born pathogen training.
Magic Rainbow employs single-use, disposable needles and an autoclave to sterilize shop equipment. “It’s definitely a priority to be clean and sterile,” Densem says.

NEW TATTOO STORE OPENS IN FRUITLAND.
Through a large plate window, sunlight streams into the main room of Little Diablo Tattoo in Fruitland, reflecting off the counter, gum machine and bright colored walls plastered with posters and designs.
R. Reyna, owner of Little Diablo’s, Esquivel and the business’ tattoo artist — Todd Ward — were all born and raised in the area and Reyna said they try to help the community.
And the community — everyone from doctors and attorneys to law enforcement officers — has responded, with Little Diablo’s performing almost 70 tattoos in the last month and a half alone, Reyna said.
The shop does tattoos either by appointment or walk-in and brings a specialist in from Caldwell for piercing on appointment.
Little Diablo’s Tattoo is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon until 9:15 p.m. at 1815 N. Whitley Drive.

Corvallis, Oregon

Top of the Valley.
Well folks, three weeks of voting is done and your votes have been tallied. What follows is the list of top spots in Albany, Corvallis, Philomath and Lebanon as selected by, well, you. If you don¡¯t see your favorite store, eatery, location, entertainment venue or entertainer listed here, then come back next year and cast your vote, or forever hold your peace.
In the meantime, congratulations to the businesses that won top honors in our first Top of the Valley, and congratulations to you for picking such a beautiful, culturally-alive location to live. As the below list proves, there is no shortage of great things to do, see, taste, hear and just all around experience in the mid-valley.
Tattoo/Piercing:
They say that diamonds are forever, but really, nothing says forever like an ink-laden needle plunging through the upper layers of your skin again and again. Think that Tasmanian Devil tattoo you got when you were 15 is still going to seem cool when your kid asks you what that indistinct brown blob is on your bicep? Or what about that lower back tattoo you got because it looked good with half shirts? The point is, out of all the shops on this list, you better trust your tattoo artist, or piercing professional, to get it right the first time, and perhaps even make sure you really want what you think you want when you walk through the doors. Top of the Valley: Sacred Art Tattoo, Corvallis. Honorable Mention: holEy cow Body Piercing, Corvallis.
