Cardinals fan sues St. Louis parlor over botched Series tattoo.
The day after the St. Louis Cardinals clinched the 2006 World Series, fan Jason Harris went to a local tattoo parlor to permanently memorialize the team's tenth championship.
He headed for The House of Ink in St. Louis, where he wanted the words "St. Louis Cardinals, World Series Champions, 2006" inked on his back.
He wants in excess of $25,000 in damages because an unnamed tattoo artist "incorrectly spelled words and put the wrong year on Plaintiff's person causing severe damage." Instead of "2006," the year 2000 was inked between his shoulder blades (the New York Yankees won the World Series that year). And the word "World" was misspelled as "Worlb." Additionally, the word "Champions" was reduced to "Champs".

New to Columbia’s downtown, Living Canvas brings together tattoo artists, a gallery, a studio, humor, angst and attitudes.
In a new twist on an ancient practice, local tattoo artists are also applying their art to canvas and hanging it at a new gallery at 520 E. Broadway.
Tattoos are optional at Living Canvas, Dean Jones said. He wants people to come hang out in the gallery, which is also a wireless hot spot. And he wants to create an artists’ community for those who might not always get invited into mainstream venues.
Living Canvas is a new “tattoo and body piercing gallery.” Jones has long envisioned a clean, upscale, artist-friendly tattoo studio. He co-owns the new business with Eric and Shannon Mezzanotte of St. Robert.
Jones is also creating a studio behind the shop so the Living Canvas artists can work on their own art projects. He wants to extend a hand — and paintbrushes — to troubled youths by helping young graffiti artists steer clear of trouble and gain some technique and skill. He would like to hang out sheets at a Twilight Festival and help supervise an ad hoc graffiti arts project.

Tattoos no longer taboo.
One thing Mike Groves has learned is that tattoos can be addictive. When he got his first tattoo, he intended to get a few more, sporadic designs on his body. But now, 14 tattoos later, he said that he is “slowly but surely making it into one big piece, like a puzzle.
Having one or more tattoos seems to be becoming common. That’s a trend that Erin Thurman, owner and tattoo artist at Monster Tattoo in Sikeston, can agree with. “I’d say my main customers would be from 18 to 27 — that would be the main crowd,” he said. “But I do have 30 and 40 year-olds getting tattoos and I do have older people up in the 50 and 60-year-old range.”

As the proprietor of Hollywood Rebels Tattoo shop, Jason Fancher uses skin as his canvas.
Gone are the days when body art was reserved for biker dudes and rock stars. At his shop, Fancher caters to a wide clientele, including families and college kids. No matter who’s getting inked, Fancher’s high standards make his shop favored by all kinds of people from Columbia and beyond.
Today’s demand for quality artwork has changed the industry dramatically. These days, your tattoo artist is more likely to be a graphic designer with an art degree than a tough biker dude who can barely draw. Ultimately, it’s the quality of the art that keeps Fancher in business.

Tattoo Parlors Could Return to Jefferson City.
Since 1980, people in Jefferson City have had to look elsewhere for their tattoo needs. But after thirty years, Monday's city council meeting could soon change all that.
"If we could get into the city limits, we could probably have some more business," said tattoo artist John Crump. "But at the same time, we've been at this shop for three years."
"More professionals like lawyers, bankers, and that type are getting tattoos," said councilmember Mike Harvey. "I think there's more openness to this type of practice now." Harvey later added the move within city limits would not come without a new set of ordinances.
"Some of the things discussed will be the distance between other establishments," said Harvey. "It has to do with zoning, where the tattoo parlor should be and where it shouldn't be."
