Jackson Tattoo Artist Murdered.

A West Jackson business owner was gunned down. According to police, Malcolm Brinson was shot at his tattoo shop on Lynch Street.

Brinson and two women were leaving the shop after midnight when two men rushed in. Police say shots were fired. Brinson was hit and died later at CMMC Hospital.

The victim often tattooed late into the night at his shop. So far no motive. Investigators say the shooters remain on the run.

At Tupelo's Tattoo Art, owned by renowned tattoo artist "Professor Bob" Dunn, about two or three people come in a day to get a design permanently inked into their skin. Recently, Tattoo Art's piercer, Chris Murrell, decided to get his ninth tattoo - courtesy of Professor Bob's son, Aaron, who also works at the shop. Both Professor Bob and Aaron are certified tattoo artists, while Murrell and Bob's daughter, Sarah, are apprenticing.

First Aaron outlined the tattoo, then sculpted it by adding in shadows - all done with black ink. Murrell's face went red several times as the tattooing machine dug into his skin.

Murrell said coloring hurts worse than the outlining, but it's different for each person. Once in a while, he closed his eyes and screamed curse words.

Chris was fine with Aaron taking his time: "In this business, there's no room for mistakes." Tattoo Art has proof of that - several tattooing awards are in the shop's lobby.
